“The Barbary Lion (aka the Atlas Lion), a sub-specie of lion now regrettably extinct in the wild.The Barbary Lion is not the only animal to have become extinct (EX) along the Atlas Mountain range, so too has the Atlas Bear(none in captivity either), the North African Elephant, and the African Aurochs - a type of large wild cattle. In addition to which, the Barbary Macaque and Cuvier’s Gazelle are endangered (EN), while the Barbary Leopard and the Northern Bald Ibis are critically endangered (CR).”

“Most Lions are actually not “pretty”. Usually us photographers try and show the beauty of the Lions, but in truth, out in Africa, it is a battle to survive. This Male Lion shows the scars from years of fighting. The Wildlife Photographers in Africa choose the angles and subjects carefully, not to show the “ugly” lions, but these to me are some of the Lions with the most story’s to tell. They are the true survivors. This Lion had somewhat of a reputation as a fighter and warrior, till his death at the hands of a younger lion co-alition. We called him Mr.T, and he was a member of the Mapogo Co-alition in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. “
